Finding The Right Photographer – Why Is It So Hard?
This week, I had a local business owner tell me (with genuine exasperation) that she and her network struggled to find a good photographer for their businesses. And I wasn’t surprised.
With so many photographers out there, it can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack—except the haystack is full of different styles, skill levels, and (let’s be honest) wildly varying price tags.
Too many options, too little clarity! Some photographers are brilliant at weddings but wouldn’t know how to shoot a strong personal brand image. Others capture stunning landscapes but might not ‘get’ the energy of a corporate event.
We all love a great recommendation, but sometimes, even the best referrals don’t quite fit your needs. When that happens, here’s how to find a photographer who truly aligns with your business:
1) Look for expertise in your field – A photographer who specialises in business branding knows how to capture more than just a ‘nice’ image. They’ll create visuals that elevate your brand.
2) Go beyond the portfolio – Their images should make you feel something. Is there a clear, consistent style? Do their past projects align with what you need?
3) Check the testimonials – What are clients saying? Did they feel comfortable? Did they get results? A great experience is just as important as great photos.
4) Connection matters – You need someone who understands you, your brand, and your audience. The right photographer will help you relax, bring out your personality, and make the process enjoyable.
5) Price vs. value – Budget matters, but the cheapest option isn’t always the best. High-quality photography is an investment that pays for itself in credibility and engagement. Cheap can be expensive in the long run.
